The county administrative area of Kilkis occupies 323.8 square kilometers and its population is about 25,000 inhabitants. Kilkis is located at the foot of the hill of St. George and the administrative (capital of the Prefecture) financial, commercial and cultural center. A modern city with heavy traffic and construction activity, banks, many shops and nightlife.
At the entrance of the town stands the hill of Heroon on top of which are the Monument of the fallen in the liberation battle of 1913 and the War Museum. In the town there is the Archaeological Museum, with rare finds from the prehistoric, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine period. On the hill of Agios Georgios there is a modern Theater, cafeteria, walk paths, the famous cave of Kilkis and the Church of St. George. In the industrial area of Stavrochori are located approximately 35 industries and crafts.
On the outskirts of town is Lake Doiran, the waterfalls of Skra, the Botanical Garden of Kroussia etc.
